E85 has become a fairly low volume product here in the States. Used to be a modest push for it and auto makers featured models that used it, but that seems to have faded away.
As a low volume mover, it costs more that something that sells high volume. That is the nature of marketing. The E85 costs less, but needs a bigger markup to make up for the lower sales volume.
Locally U88, or E15, is the good deal, at 20-50 cents less than regular gas. When you consider regular gas is E10, that extra 5% ethsnol shows quite a cost savings on your fuel bill.
In fact, are you sure it was E85 they were advertising, and not U88?

Kum and Go, now Maverick, has been the only chain I've ever seen with E85 in Western ND and has an E85 price on their pole. 4 spots on the pump, 87, 89, 91, E85.
Cash Wise, a grocery store chain, has E15 for about 5 cents less than E10, according to their rotating price sign, but no one was fueling there oddly enough. |
