Chemical control of screw worm is not easy when you run 1 animal unit per 15-20 acres. In other areas where it rains more then chemical control works better. Plus if you have other animals like sheep or angora goats along with cows, then that gets time consuming and expensive.

I grew up with screw worms and it was a problem. I remember helping dad catch newborn calves and doctoring their navel's to kill magots. This was way before ivermectin. The insecticides that we put in the sprayer smelled nasty but I wonder if they lasted that long. Plus some years we never had a winter. I can remember only one time growing up that they closed the schools down because it got cold enough where the natural gas pipe was to small to give enough heat for homes much less than heating up the schools, too.
