I think that the US should change some of the regulations so that more land is available for livestock production such as occasional rotational grazing on long term CRP parcels. One serious issue for corn production is the sourcing of fertilizer much of which comes thru the Strait of Hormuz or is purchased from a Canadian govt approved monopoly. Foreign wars are about as helpful to American ag as the plague.

World economies are shaped by mega trends. The US nitrogen industry owes its existence to munitions production from WW2. Literally beating swords into plow sheers..
https://www.choicesmagazine.org/choices-magazine/submitted-articles/the-history-consolidation-and-future-of-the-us-nitrogen-fertilizer-production-industryThe U.S. ammonia industry was initially developed to supply the primary material needed for the production of explosive munitions during World War II. After the war, the output of those plants transitioned into the production of nitrogen fertilizer products. The product output of ammonia plants varies based on specific plant technologies and market conditions. However, 80%–92% of ammonia produced in the United States is transformed into nitrogen-fertilizer products (U.S. Geological Survey, 2019). Hence, market trends in the ammonia industry generally reflect market conditions of the U.S. nitrogen fertilizer sector.
As such.. we’ve seen growth.. as the low cost producer until the Middle East and others.. Russia and China (which also make munitions.. hence the demand for ammonium nitrate..) had cost advantages.. See Enron, California electricity crisis.. before US fracking unlocked capacious amounts of cheap US Natural Gas.. (the worlds cheapest? Currently until the straits reopen.. some.. day.. year.. in the future)
We can expand domestic fertilizer production.. work with our neighbor Allie’s Canada.. ( and we don’t need to replace their governments.. sigh)
You can also produce green ammonia from excess renewable wind or solar energy.. etc.
So there are many marginal advances which add up to significant growth.
It would stretch us.. but.. nothing we can’t handle.
And it adds natural shock absorbers to our economy through diversification of supply.
