SW Iowa
I was an Allis Chalmers mechanic from 1975 until 1988. It really got to be a cluster frick after Deutz got involved. Worked on a couple of those 8550's. Everything was so big and heavy! You were either standing on a ladder or using a cherry picker. Would have just signed on at Cat, if I really wanted to be a heavy equipment mechanic. Not a bad tractor for the most part, but I hated them, just due to the size. Went to work at a Deere Dealer after that. And it was NOT in the shop.
