No it's not. Water soaks in with alfalfa. Let me guess. You're the only one who somehow doesn't have to do tillage in the north but yet doesn't have the wind blowing residue off. Plants through tall cover crops and gets half the county average, amirite?
No. You're not right. Alfalfa makes the ground harder. All nitrogen fixing legumes that leave excess n in the soil collapse soil structure. Combine that with multiple trips from cutting rigging, tedding and baling packing the ground. Alfalfa has the worst infiltration rate of anything in my area. |
