Alberta | I don't have a Vermeer but I like the TMR for you reasons stated above. They are simple, low maintenance and you can mix and chop whole bales. As far as power, we use a 110 hp tractor on a 900 cubic foot mixer. This is a mechanical rated tractor HP not "electronic boost" hp. It is definitely not overpowered, but we can mix and haul a 23000 lb load of TMR. A little tough getting the PTO started some times if it sits and settles and it is very slow to travel, but it gets the job done. The big thing is the power to get through wet spots and mud if we are lacking the power, we just shut the PTO off for a bit. Bigger is definitely better from a capacity and mix standpoint and I am not sure if the smaller mixers have 2 screws but 2 screws would probably make the biggest improvement as our previous single screw would have lots of dead spots where bales cores would not fall in the vortex or get pulled down. I would not be afraid of a rebuilt model. They are very simple machines and as long as you are not a dairy or feedlot running 10 hours a day, a rebuilt and used model will last a commercial cattleman years running a couple hours a day. Just make sure you check and change screw gearbox oil and you are laughing. | |
