Welp. You better rethink that US Crude independence thing.
At current pumping.. 13 million bbls per day. And US proven Crude oil reserves.. 46.4 billion.. that's 9.8 years.
Yes we will develop more.. but.. that's a far cry from being "secure." as Shales have very high decline rates.. They've been described as running on a tread mill.
We've lived the whole peak oil thing.. where shale has bought us a couple decades.. but we're well into that cushion now.
PS. The whole Petroleum industry lives on tax breaks. Depletion tax credit for example.
We will need to diversify. Of our choosing.. or forced.
