Ethanol seems like just another government subsidy Everybody complains about the corn price . Maybe more acres would have stayed in grass and cows. I farm and the endless programs for row crops are staggering, from subsidized insurance to bridge payments to sdrp,
Ethanol mandates was a gift to corn farmers when prices were terrible in 2005-6 . Farmers are ok with mandates/subsidies that put $$ in there pockets .
And ,yes, in Canada programs and safety nets are mostly targeted to grains and oilseeds .
Without ethanol a lot of fringe area's would have stayed in grass, ect. Ethanol 's footprint is net positive 15-20% gain after fertilizer, trucking, chemicals, processing, ect. Crude oil is 80-85% net gain
Ethanol is good at replacing MTBE and clean air...If you agree then DEF , ect. is also a good thing
