Subject: RE: Chris's Post.....Did I do that?

I was 6 when I started helping pick stones. I got the cushy job of driving the 3020. The rest of the family had to walk and throw the stones into the loader bucket. My instructions were to just follow dad around and I remember trying my best to do that. Apparently I did do a pretty good job of that because years later my family was laughing about how my dad had to really keep moving and keep a close eye on me so I didn’t run him over. There was no slacking off when I was at the wheel. Lol

I was a bit older but I remember helping dad rake hay with a side delivery rake. He would let me take the wheel but no matter how good I drove I could never make it a full round around the field without dad grabbing the wheel at least once to nudge the tractor over. So at noon over lunch I complained to my mom that even though I was doing a perfect job dad would still grab the wheel at least once to stop me from making it a full round. Miraculously right after dinner I did make it full round around the field! Looking back I suspect that my “perfect” job was likely far from that and my dad was likely cringing as I did something like drive on the swath or didn’t completely flip the swath over for a ways. Lol
