East Central South Dakota | The profile of a producer against ethanol is the guy who hasn't adjusted his business model in 50 years and sees prosperity every direction he looks except in his own back yard. They are jealous of others prosperity, so they have to blame something besides themselves---ethanol is easy. They all use the same jealous language of new paint and lake houses and poor me and lucky you. They use the same old arguments of 20 years ago about ethanol and don't know the first thing about how precision fermentation, new generation yeasts or oil extraction have changed the industry. Haven't a clue on how the progressive animal protein producers are using the co-products to raise meat. Today's ethanol is a completely different industry than just 20 years ago and efficiency improvements continue as the industry ages. The corn refineries in the Midwest are a crucial component of national security. Easier to just hate than to take the time to learn how to read and educate themselves. They can wish all day and night for the times their day job in town, 30 cows and sows and 200 acres would let them buy land and expand. The wealth created in agriculture the last 15 years has made that dream into a dead-end nightmare----just an unfortunate fact. Maybe not the right path, but it is the one we are on. |
