Missouri river bottom south of Sioux City, IA | I ran a Cat 287C for 15 years and was happy with it but as you get older it’s hard to keep climbing over the attachment your using to get into the cab. Also when working with the fork lift attachment and trying to lift things with a chain you need someone else to help you as you’re stuck in the cab if the loader is a few inches up and you can not open the door.
So I got a JCB 250T skid loader with the side door. Its night and day difference between the Cat getting in and out of the cab. I have not used it enough to form an opinion on its performance compare to the Cat.
Another reason for switching from Cat to JCB is the Cat’s dealer cost for labor repair work. The last work done on the Cat was $440 per hour labor charge and $235 trip charge for 25 miles. It was to splice a broken wire which took 2 hours. Total bill was $1,001.72
