Beef calf here would be $2000. Dairy cross $1500 to $2000. Just my thoughts but aren't you doing a salvage operation grafting a calf? Could you find a free Martin holstein heifer or even a holstein heifer? Cost would be $400 to $600. Spend big dollars for a calf and it doesn't work now you really lost money. Yes at weaning the calf won't be as high dollar but the cow would get another go.
Where are you finding $600 Holstein heifers?
If it moos and breathes it's pretty much $1k minimum.
Might be able to get a Jersey for that much I guess |
