NW IA | I should have mentioned that I try to keep coarse barn lime available free choice on the recommendation of my vet. For bloat and foot rot, not founder, I've never seen long toes, but have had rare cases of foot rot and my vet believes stomach acid can contribute to hoof problems.
I also keep round bales of bean stubble pushed up to the guard rail when I have it. Not sure how it affects the critters, apart from relieving boredom, but it does disappear. The cattle supposedly eat less bean stubble than corn stalks offered in the same way, so less gorging = less intake swings. I bed with corn stalks and they do like to graze on them when fresh.
