Ive yet to see a corn plant sprout in a manure pie.

I usually give my cows a few buckets of corn so they'll come up whenever I rattle a bucket. Plain shelled corn before I had my own grinder. The amount of corn growing all over the pasture was staggering. Not every kernel they are came out the back but there's no way they got any good from the ones that grew.

You are thinking about two very different rumen environments. A steer on whole shelled corn and pellet has the correct microbes to clean out the starch. A cow that is infrequently fed supplemental corn and still on a basic forage diet has a rumen tuned to forage and quite different.
