NEMO | All good advice. I'm not sure why guys don't err on the side of caution and get the cow in a chute at the first sign of something ain't right. Often the nipples are just plugged on the end and need opened. Mastitis is pretty easy to feel in sections, I still use Penicillin. I don't hesitate to tube a calf, but only if it shows no immediate sucking response. I have tubed multiple times on a calf, but I hate to, and it only makes getting it to show a sucking response worse. Sometimes you just have to keep playing with keeping the nipple in it's mouth until it starts gumming it. Sometimes a calf that doesn't start quick just never figures it out, frustrating
