Eastern NE KS | My Dad claimed a good cattleman can evaluate a calf's quality the day after birth. For many years I tried to see what he meant but finally gave up.
I reminded him of his claim and told him I think the 1 day old test is baloney but the 3 to 5 week period tells the tale of what to make of a young calf. There are many ailments that may trip up a prospect but finding one to watch is incredibly fun and worthwhile.
