I have a 2000 Dodge Ram.

After spending a bunch of time doing the same thing you are doing, trying to figure out why I'm not getting the constant power to the plug, I just ran a wire from one of the 'spare' slots in the fusebox. There should be one that the power source is switched, just run a wire from the trailer plug to a spade, insert the spade in the back of the fusebox, add a fuse, and go (be sure it is the right kind with the little locking tab, and mark in the fusebox what the fuse you added goes to)
