Pesotum, IL
My opinion would probably change depending on the model. Are there a ton of these tractors around? Is it a desired machine?

I’m thinking more along the lines of investing the time and money into it may not make a huge difference in what you can sell it for but may make a big difference in whether you can sell it. If this is a highly desired model like a boxcar magnum or 50-60 series or 8000 series Deere, it likely will sell as is. If it’s something that isn’t as highly desired, it would need to stand out a bit more to sell.

In the last 6-8 years, we’ve sold a 2290 and 3594. Not what I would call highly desired tractors but they were in absolutely pristine condition. If not for that I’m not sure the 2290 would’ve sold at all. The 3594 probably would’ve just because of FWA but might have been a low enough price we could’ve just kept it. The 2290 we were offered $4,000 trade in from the dealer I worked for. We ended up selling it privately for somewhere around $13,000. Dealer didn’t want it and individual saw a mint tractor.
