I have 1” Iowa hydrants. I slip a 1” epdm hose over the garden hose threads and secure it with a hose clamp. I have the other end reduced down to a 3/8 hose barb and just let it spray out of the hose barb and use it as a nozzle. It creates a pretty tight stream. I have a 50 gpm well set at 60 psi
