Subject: RE: Old house wiring

SW Wisconsin
I always thought my Dad was a good electrician until he passed away and I found numerous things that changed my mind! Found a outlet that was just screwed to lathe without being in a box, dishwasher was spliced to a light duty extension cord that wasn't even tapped that went through the floor into a outlet in the basement. Couldn't run the microwave and toaster at the same time without tripping the breaker if the refrigerator happened to turn on at the same time! Multiple wires under the same screw in the breaker box. I rewired all the wiring in my house from a new box all the way up to the attic. Found live wires laying in the insulation in the attic with bare wires showing, no idea what they ever ran to. Wish I could find the picture of the medicine cabinet where someone decided to use it as a "wiring central headquarters" for several rooms!
