| I've dealt with something kinda similar. Somewhere between 1 and 2 acre lagoon my father in law never really took great care of for his feedlot
I spent a good jag of money on pit additive and dumped that in the lagoon months before I planned on doing anything. It was crazy there was chunks the size of pickups floating around a few days after adding the additive.
I had 40 acres of oats i put in right next to the lagoon to be able to haul waste out on when I started cleaning. Lucky I had a wet summer to keep the lagoon somewhat filled with water to keep the additive working on the solids.
Rented a bunch of pit stirrers and hired a big pumping crew to come in and do more stirring. They hauled what could be pumped out on the oats.... covered that then had to chop some silage early to have a place to go with the rest.
The stars aligned just right that year the fall was real dry. Pushed the rest of the solids in a pile and hired a long reach hoe to load spreaders. After we got what we were able we went in with bale processor and spread a bunch of bales to soak up what was left. Pushed that up and hauled it out.
Right before Christmas I took the dozer and leveled the lagoon. Still isn't growing grass the best in a few places but it's getting there. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to farm across it or not.
That was feedlot lagoon maybe dairy would be more solid? Good luck. I had a fair amount of cash into it but I also had a lot of my own equipment to deal with it. | |
