Just outside downtown Prairie Hill | We closed a hog lagoon...probably 15 years ago on a cost share program. My memory is my part of the cost was not bad tho we did a good bit of work with the sludge. We had a contractor who stirred the whole lagoon for a few days and pumped and injected into a nearby crop field. We had some sludge left at the end. We hauled the sludge out and mixed it with some strawy type manure out of a hog hoop barn and let it set for a while before spreading it with a normal manure spreader. Even tho they mixed a lot, there will be sludge at the end which is too thick to pump and too wet to spread. I would only close one with NRCS involvement. This way you are covered from an enviroment liability viewpoint which could be the biggest risk you have. We also had really good guys to work with. As far a nutrient value...it is really good stuff. In today's prices it would add up quickly. Big project, but you will be glad when it is over. My email is good if you want to visit. Good luck with the project.... |
