Subject: Continous glucose monitor

Pittsburg, Kansas

This thread just reminded me I got an Amazon delivery yesterday. And in it was a continuous glucose monitor, a Lingo.

I tried to get one last year through my doctor and he gave me a prescription. Well, long story short since my long term diabetes is in remission because of my low carbohydrate diet I no longer need to take insulin. And my A1c runs 5.8-6 range. So I am no longer officially diabetic (although according to modern medicine reversal of the disease is not possible). So anyway they said insurance would not cover it. No problem, I will pay for one. Not sure what happened but the ball got dropped either on my end or theirs and I never got one.

So now they are available over the counter and I finally got one. We will see how it goes! My friend put one of his on me for a few days a couple years ago as well as my wife. Her glucose with our low carb way of eating was solid as a rock. Mine on the other hand fluctuated a lot but still stayed within the range of 100 to about 150.

Anyway, we both just put a new sensor on and waiting for it to get going for the first hour. I think it will really benefit me when we go on a cruise in a couple weeks where we "let our low carb hair down a little" and cheat with a desert once a day. Otherwise we stay low carb pretty well. It should let me know when I need to go climb some stairs or take a walk to burn some excess glucose. Or at least that is the idea. Hope it works.

Not planning on wearing one year round. Just a few weeks at a time to make sure I am still on track. Or like when we travel and may not be able to eat as "clean" as my wife's low carb cooking is.
