Subject: RE: Terragator 1803 vs 1903

NW Illinois
Frame between the two is longer on the 1903. Cab forward there is extra length for the larger engine and cooling. Front fork will be different to accommodate the large wheel and tire combo. I'm sure the cab back is longer to mount larger dry box, tanks, etc. Don't believe the actual frame size is any bigger. 1903 will run on 32" rubber, 1803 will run on 25" rubber. Cab is the same.
Engine, I believe the 1903 was a 3176. 1803 can be 3208T, Cummins, or 1997 and later can have the Deere 8.1 engine. 3208T is an industrial version block. Last one I rebuilt was right at 30K back in 2006 from a certified Cat dealer. 1603 runs the "truck" version 3208T. We had all 16-1803 engines and will say it really didn't matter in performance. 1903 had 18spd torque boost, maybe some early ones had some straight shift transmission. 1803 can have a 18 spd straight shift, 18 spd torque boost, Allison auto with drop box, and 97 and later when has a Deere engine will have the "Deere, Funk" powershift. 1603 would be 10 spd or Allison autos. We never had an auto, but have run every other version of transmission that the 1803 can have. Again it's more personal preference.
Older 1803 can be stick shift between the legs and newer ones will have a console shifter. It's nice to not have the bang gears between the legs all day, but sometimes the dual cable operating setup to run the console shifter could cause issues getting it into gear.

Edit: Believe I am wrong on only 3176 in a 1903. I believe Cummins was also an option. 9103 model is when only Cat engines were used.
