Subject: RE: Jd 4020 steering

Faunsdale, AL
Typical of any synchrorange 3020 or 4020. When the clutch is disengaged, there’s no power to the transmission pump that “charges” the front high pressure hydraulic pump. With an old tractor thst has some high pressure to sump leaks, it doesn’t take long before the front pump runs out of oil to pump.

5010,5020,6030’drive the trans pump off the pto driveshaft so it doesn’t have this problem. Powershift trans pump also runs all the time unless the disconnect on left side of dash is pulled. This disconnect clutch was discontinued with the 30 series tractors.
