North Mississippi Delta / Alabama Gulf Coast | I have tried ground contact PT, hardwood, and Thompson to treat trailer decks. The methods that work best for me through trial and error is to get #1 lumber (hard to find) ground contact, determine the top and bottom based on the growth rings, coat the bottom with filtered motor oil/diesel until it won’t absorb any more and then treat the top until it runs off and won’t soak it in. My trailer decks have all rotted from the bottom up, avoid knots as much as possible. I have routed out some big knots and filled with epoxy on the last one we did.
Currently finished a 24’ equipment trailer last year and now need to redo a SxS trailer that has a 10 yr old deck. All my trailers have be done this way with the SxS the last one.
At my current age, I hope this will be it for me.
