West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12 | A scaffolding broke and fell about thirty feet to the ground and broke my collarbone the first day of corn harvest back in the day. Went to the doctor, arm was put in a sling and I was told to go home and lay on the couch and watch cartoons with the kids for a week or two...oook.
Fast forward to the last day of corn harvest and over a month of NOT laying on the couch watching cartoons with the kids and a third trip to the doctor where X-rays showed ZERO healing had took place...the doctor told me that unless I did what I was told he was going to do surgery and I wouldn't have a choice but to lay on the couch and watch cartoons with the kids.
On the way home from the doctor I hopped into the last semi load of corn, followed the combine home, watched the last kernel of corn fall into the auger, shut the trap...went in the house and watched cartoons with kids for a week.
Fast forward a week and X-rays showed a lot of healing had taken place. I cruised through the yard on my home from the doctor to see how grain dryer/machinery cleanup was going...I got back into the house just in time to catch the latest episode of Thomas the Tank Engine with the kids.
Fast forward another week and my collarbone was just about all healed.
So based on my one broken bone experience, the fastest way to heal a broken bone is to take it easy for at least a week so that the bone starts to heal and does finally heal correctly.
