On the acres per hour, I've heard some drone sellers claim that the new drones set to be released in the next 12ish months can cover more acres a day than a ground rig.
On the roi or late foliars, yes I think it's there, but if you aren't measuring what's missing it's money wasted. Potentially best bang from micor nutrients or plant hormones that can make a difference at small rates. Cobalt to delay black layer and get a heavier kernal, zinc for soybean seed size, etc.
