In Iowa, the answer is "it depends". As in it depends what you're hauling, where you're hauling it, what it will be used for and who is asking the questions on the side of the road.
Best thing to do would be to call your state's DOT and ask questions that are specific to what you use your trucks for.
If you could get the answers in writing with a signature and badge number on it that would be best.
