I had acid reflux/GERD and the dry cough for years, turned out to be a symptom of a parathyroid tumor.  Chop out the tumor and cough was gone.  You find this out by doing a blood test for calcium levels.

My Aunt coughs all winter, when she cuts out sugar it goes away.
