SW Ohio
All of these large companies are awful, and unfortunately they are getting worse and larger. My grandparents are similar, grandma is 88 and grandpa is 91. No internet, just a landline phone and a cell phone we pay for but they don't use. Anyways they had a Verizon or Frontier landline that was costing them over $100/month. Call clarity was becoming an issue as well, anytime it rained hard or ground was extremely wet the phone be full of static.
Last summer Spectrum ran fiber down their road, and the salesman was able to talk them into a business phone service with them. Normal price is $50, but they would get a $15/month discount for 12 months. I've dealt with Spectrum and their subs working with underground utilities and knew going into this they are terrible company. 48 hours after the service was turned on the modem died. I spent several hours dealing with tech support before they would agree to send a technician or even a new modem out for me install myself. Eventually that got taken care of and everything was alright for a while.

Last month they get a bill and it went from $35 to $50. I get to looking through their previous bills and in very fine print that i don't think they could've read themselves it said there would be an additional $5 fee for a PAPER STATEMENT, and $10 for PAYMENT PROCESSING. So $15 a MONTH just for them to mail you a bill and process a check OR credit card over the phone. I tried arguing with customer service and got nowhere with that, so i just set it to auto-pay with their credit card and i get e-mailed the monthly statement.
