Cutting poplar logs into stove lengths was easy work using a tractor powered saw compared to doing it by hand. This photo from the early 30s shows the hired man at a neighbour's farm cutting with a buck saw by hand. There was usually a guy travelled around with a portable engine and saw to do the job but I guess they had run out of firewood in this photo. Hauling water was another job that was common on the uncle's farm. The AR in the video saw regular duty pulling the stone boat with a couple of 45 gallon barrels up the hill from the well to the house. They did get a deep well and running water in the house and for the cattle in the last years of their life but still hauled drinking water from the community well.
