Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | Very well said. I don’t have a good answer to how you decide who needs payments and who doesn’t. Still seems the fairest way is to raise affordable crop insurance levels, do away with optional units, and that should pay those with shortfalls and not others.
Only downside is you take the risk out of farming and it just keeps those making bad decisions going and keeps land prices up, everything else up. Basically it’s like an older gentleman told me one time, “if there is no risk, there is no reward”. |
