Iowa | So I'll give you some insight as to why: If a police department takes one of these people into custody - their health insurance stops paying -- so if the guy/gal has a heart attack or brain bleed (common with drug use) the municipality is on the hook for their care. Worst case they have something happen and are in a vegitative state - the municipality is stuck paying for them forever. A neighboring municipality had something like that happen, 20 year old cardiac arrest from drug use while coming down from a high in county jail - county ended up bonding to make their budget work. My situation was similar - family member was 35 and had heart attack while being apprehended - life flighted to hospital - all on counties dime. Thats why they tend to stay away. Another case where lawyers messed it up - they chose to get high, they should pay the consequences. | |
