Subject: RE: Very nervous about building a bin

Callao Missouri
Im a tight wad. Ive put up used bins, not sure i have saved any money doing that. Next one will probably be new. However i keep my eyes peeled for 36-42ft bins already taken down on marketplace.

Augers.….. every auction you go to check out the augers. They almost always sell last, after the crowd leaves. I've bought nice 10x70's from $500-4500. You never know when you're going to trash an auger or wind blow it over so I try to multiple spares on hand. Leaving them scattered out across multiple farms is much better than dragging them around during busy harvest time on big 4 lane hwys anyway.

Moral of my story is there are multiple ways to go about grain storage. Im not sure any one way is wrong. Keep in mind its not always rosy. 23, and 24 crop prices never interested me and I held too long. Had to do the shameful August purge two years in a row. This year the soy market is acting like its supposed to. But corn so far still should have been sold off the combine in the late fall for $4.30 and not had interest and storage investment.
