Subject: RE: CRP deadline tomorrow

The county i live in here in Michigan the CRP rental rate per acre is $50 higher than the average rate grain farmers are paying. It is the mega dairies that are driving the CRP rates to historical high rates. Grain farmers are paying on average $150 per acre for ground that grows 200 bushel corn and 60 bushel beans on an optimal year. Dairies are paying on average $275per acre for the same ground. I know of some operations that are paying $350 per acre.

They don't need the ground to grow feed, they need it to have a place to spread manure. And it is the spreading of manure that keeps them from expanding their operations as many landowners don't want 100"s of thousands of gallons of manure dumped on their property every year.
