| Had this conversation with my vet. He tests 1200-1300 bulls a year. His thoughts are that the feet on Angus cattle have gotten progressively worse, more foot problems overall. In the case of bulls some of it is the way they are (over) developed. So what has changed to make them worse? I lay a lot of it at the EPD race. You jack up EPD's by turning over generations. How many bulls are in studs out of 12 year old cows? I really don"t know but would bet darn few. I also have a friend who does quite a bit of work for registered breeders, sees a lot of "donor cows" that couldn't begin to raise a calf in range conditions, but boy do they have great numbers.
