Eastern NE KS | Use your eyes when selecting a bull AND confirm your thoughts by looking at the Angle epd if your looking at Angus. The bull you want is up on his toes more than back on his heals. Supposedly, 45* is the ideal but for the near term the op needs to pick differently. Do this smartly. I once wanted to straighten my sows pasterns as the flexed too flat. I bought a boar that was too up straight and learned the lesson of near the middle is best My boar became arthritic with sore joints even though he was young.
EPD's have a role to play to help make changes in what you got. Angus hoof angle and claw shape epd's are still new-ish to other long term epds. As a result I think I see dramatic changes in epd values so a buyers visual assessment is important but knowing the epd confirms your visual assessment is always welcome.
