South Central MN | I have really been thinking about this since I first saw this. Who are the state police? Is it the same as the state highway patrol, and if so, why are they the people to contact? I guess I thought they dealt with traffic situations. If you follow any of your county criminal information, you would likely see that the sheriff's department is already dealing with a lot, so they probably don't want to add more to the list. That being said, it's their job to deal with this and all of you need to keep the pressure on them until they take it seriously. When I have received threats (last time was six months ago) from a meth user brother, I contacted the sheriff's office. I also contacted his probation officer. The probation officer did speak with him. I had to call the sheriff's department a few times before they finally started a file on him, so now if anything happens again, I have been told they can make an arrest. Prior to starting a file, they told me they could not unless he actively threatened, rather than the text message threats I had received.
Make sure you document everything you do and every perceived threat any of you receive. If I were you, since you already feel he has some access to information, I would do as little as possible through email, text, and social media until you have someone who is tech savvy make sure your information is secure. All of this sounds extreme, but he has nothing but time on his hands since I'm guessing he isn't employed, plus meth users are known to be paranoid and can lash out against who they feel threatens them. | |
