NW Missouri | I agree.
Seems like when I was a kid, tornado watch meant the conditions were right for a tornado, tornado warning meant there is one on the ground, get to shelter. Now it seems every time there's a severe spring or summer storm, there is a tornado warning that comes with it. No watch - just straight to warning. It definitely has the effect of crying wolf - I now ignore tornado warnings.
I'm also the guy who pretends not to see the lightning at ballgames so we can keep playing, so maybe I'm not the best person to take storm advice from. Always felt kids were safer out on the field individually than huddled up in a dugout surrounded by chain link fence anyway. I am amazed at how so many rural people are scared of storms.
