Subject: RE: Farm succession

Same here dad wouldn’t talk about it much
Found out after he died he had put everything into a trust
I was farming on my own but dad and I worked together and shared each other’s equipment (no duplicate equipment just each having a partial line up)
Two off farm siblings who decided they want their share leaving me in a tight spot
I worked thru it but it was a challenge and quite a setback for a few years
Funny thing is one sibling who wanted her share vocally the most wonders why when she wants to borrow a farm pickup, skid steer, backhoe etc gets a fast NO
I explain her share of the money meant she can go buy her own or rent it. I had to fork over the money NOW for some of the items or purchase another as the one that was owned was sold
If you get anything that maybe taken as ambiguous or with reservations I suggest you have a plan B. Especially if you have any siblings
Best of luck
Sad to say for my family it was a very big change in how we interact
