Good luck. If the older generation hasn't started this conversation its likely dead in the water.

Took till my early 30's till we could buy a piece of ground where weve established our farm. Built our first house in a small town at 27 so we had something that appreciate and parlayed that into a bigger, permanent home here. Everything we have we have built and bought over the past 35 years. No grandpas or dad's tools or equipment to use.

Anyway when we bought this land dad comes over and asks why? Who's going to take over the farm that was given to him and my uncle? I said what, when im 50? Well I missed that call by 6 years. My uncle (7 years younger than my 88 yo dad) finally told my dad that they were renting the farm to me and my wife. Dad hadn't been helping in several years at that point and uncle said farming alone was no fun. Uncle has been great to work with and turns out my dad was the whole boat anchor of progress on anything they did together. I kinda got that but sure caused us to miss spending time with my aunt and uncle.

Hopefully you can figure out whats on your dad's mind and it'll be productive. 30 years ago when I went down this road my dad got all upset and just yelled you guys can figure it out when I die. Facing our own mortality is something many cant progress beyond.
