Terrible deal. Definitely some neat operations and great cattle through those regions affected. Can’t help but notice the most photogenic shots of huge billowing orange clouds are from the areas largely choked out by huge cedar jungles. While some of these may have been started/caused by poor choices or stupidity, the end results have been inevitable for some time. And we’ll continue to see events like this going forward with heavy fuel loads and the high February and March winds that have become common in the last decade or so it seems. Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and others have all seen 400k acre plus fires the last decade. Anderson Creek, Clark Co, North Central KS, Smokehouse Creek and recently the Ranger Road fires to name a few. Not all of those are a result of mismanagement and cedar encroachment of course, nor are these Nebraska fires entirely, but I think folks are either going to have to recognize this is seemingly going to be a common occurrence going forward and/or plan accordingly to attempt to mitigate these things. Hope it’s not as windy up there as they were talking today.
