SE Iowa | We haven’t trimmed a hoof in over 10 years on our sheep flock. Don’t need to if you have the right genetics and Run them through formaldehyde and zinc footbath religiously twice a year and no need for a turntable.
Used to have foot rot problems all the time trying to trim hooves and fighting it, it got so bad we had 3 week old lambs getting it. Dad got sick of it one day and rounded everyone up and sold anybody that had the slightest limp or foot problem. Ended up being almost half the flock, now with the footbath and doing that we’ve never had a problem since. | |
