I used to think ordinary glasses were "eye protection" too. They are not. I never did figure out how the tiny piece of metal got into my eye back in 1979 but it did get around the glasses. Many years later it led to a detached retina and lost vision in that eye. Coincidence? I had to learn the hard way to be more careful.
