I wouldn’t want to run another auger head without an air bar. I think your head is new enough you can run the series II Crary gearbox which is supposed to be pretty reliable.
I had a series one let loose on me last fall on my 1020. Bought it all used so can’t say for sure how old it was exactly but I ran it 4 years with yearly oil changes probably 600 acres a year or so. New gearbox wasn’t cheap, about 3500 bucks or so which sucks.
I replaced the rotor as preventative maintenance and was told once the fins show cupping think about replacing it.
I still think they’re a worthwhile investment especially in short beans but they save on shatter losses in big beans too.
