West Central Iowa | If you’re selling the same thing everyone else is why would they buy it from you? The bull industry is not the most honest business, you see high dollar sales, and they are just hyped cattle trading. The real money is coming from the commercial herds, and the high dollar animal thing just gets everyone excited so they can shake more money out of the commercial cattlemen. Then there is the whole guarantee and sale credit thing where herds pump out a bunch of over fed yearling bulls, and when they don’t last a year because they were poorly developed they get credit towards a new bull, so they take the credit and think I’ll just pay another $2000 and get a really good bull this year. Enough people are going to the big sales with credit because of high failure rates that it pushes prices even further. If you are actually good at developing bulls your customers only come back every 3 or 4 years, unless they run big herds. | |
