You're using them correctly, according to a couple sprayer manufacturers I talked to. Just extend the booma little when needed, not spray the grass in the actual fence line.
Too many spray the grass when they spray the crop, and kill the grass. A couple Co ops do that here. Then all that comes up are ragweed, velvet leaf, thistles, wooly cup grass, etc.
I just spray the fence lines separately with the Ranger.
