| Have him check the heifers at the needed intervals, if you take a shift in the night go get him to help if one needs pulled. Teach him to graft a calf onto a cow. Teach him to weld to fix feeders and panels. Show him how to pack a wheel bearing and put a new floor in a stock trailer. The more self sufficient he can operate the more success he will encounter. When you can problem solve the everyday it builds smarts to deal with the big picture decisions. I’ll never forget my first cattle break even exercise in college. There was a line in there to pay yourself an hourly wage (as in pay yourself first). I still laugh about that one as I would either be wealthy for working so many hours or completely broke from paying myself… | |
