Bins definitely have a purpose and a use. Most of our grain goes through a bin we own at some point.

The issue is with the hyperbolic statements of 40% return the OP stated without backing up the claims with any sort of facts. There are a lot of young guys that look at agtalk for wisdom and the fallacy of bins printing cash needed to be called out with rational discussion.

It is much easier to sell grains when markets are above break even if you are willing to expand your marketing windows. The O.P.s marketing window is just the 10 months after harvest and binning, vs the multiple years of time by utilizing the board and forward contracting tools that are available. it is harder to hit profitable prices a shorter time period.
